GOLDEN PASTE vs TURMERIC SUPPLEMENTS

The Difference between Turmeric Pills/ Supplements and “Turmeric Golden Paste”

A lot of Turmeric pills, tonics and drinks are not very effective and sometimes a waste of money. This is because the active compounds like curcuminoids are not easily absorbed by the body without assistance.

It is not water-soluble and cannot be absorbed via the same pathways as water-based foods. So, it must be combined with a healthy fat, like Extra Virgin Olive oil, to dissolve the Turmeric in the stomach to allow the body to absorb the active components. Turmeric without an oil is ineffective.

Piperine found in Black Pepper slows the conversion of Curcumin in the small intestine allowing more time for absorption and therefore a far larger uptake. So, Turmeric without Black Pepper won’t have a high absorption rate.

Turmeric needs to be heated with water. Studies show that cooking Turmeric increases its solubility in water, it also breaks down the starches found in Turmeric before the digestion process starts which means more active ingredients are available for absorption than raw or powdered Turmeric.

Dosage for Animals

Small Dogs and Cats; Start with a pea sized amount for the first week and then slowly increase to ¼ teaspoon twice a day with food

Medium Dogs; Start with a pea sized amount for the first week and then slowly increase to ½ teaspoon twice a day with food

Large Breed Dogs; Start with a pea sized amount for the first week and then slowly increase to ¾ teaspoon twice a day with food

Horses; Start with one teaspoon twice a day with food and adjust accordingly to how your horse responds

Reason behind the Virgin Olive Oil and not Coconut Oil

The reason we used Extra Virgin Olive Oil instead of Coconut was for a couple of reasons. We are a member of the Turmeric User Group, which has nearly 300 000 members and was started by Doctor Doug English, who was the inventor of Golden Paste. Over time, we noticed that quite a few animals, were having allergic reactions to the Coconut Oil and when switched to Olive Oil were fine. Some members had noticed that their Cholesterol had risen and when switched went back to their normal numbers. Coconut oil has greater separation ( all products even ours will have some separation because oil and water don’t emulsify well) but Coconut Oil hardens in the fridge and is hard to get out and then melts outside the fridge and becomes quite liquid. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is an extremely healthy fat and is recommended by Dr English and the Turmeric User Group. So those are the main reasons and people can debate which out of the two oils is the healthier, but we went with the Extra Virgin Olive oil for the above reasons.
