The Gift of a Great Dog Named Buddy

The Gift of a great dog named Buddy!
Here is his story,
If my Buddy Boy could have talked; we would have finished each other’s sentences. He was another rescue we had found and I knew he was ours the first time I laid eyes on him. I used to bath Buddy on my rounds of dog washing and knew he needed me as much as I needed him. I could tell, we spoke to each other in that silent language we all have with our pets. After 4 months in of washing him, I got the courage up to ask the owner if I could take Buddy on for the end of his days. He was 10. He needed a home where it was warm, he could come in and out when he needed to and eat a healthy diet for an old boy. He was stuck in a back yard with no one to play with, he was cold and scared and he was hungry. The owners did love him and had found them selves in a situation that they could not afford to keep him anymore. They worked away to try and feed their family so Buddy was left at home alone day by day.
The owners called me one day and the weather was dreadful, raining thunder and lightning and I just knew Buddy would have been scared. They said “you can have Buddy he is continually barking and the neighbors are complaining” without a second thought we jumped into the car headed down the hill to get my boy. I told my hubby we were picking up Buddy to re home him to a place where he will be looked after, just in case he disagreed with me rescuing another dog. I always seemed to find them and bring them home. So, he was happy and of we go.
We get to Buddy’s home and yep he was out the back wet cold and hungry, he was excited to see me and as soon as I opened the gate I think he knew we were there for him. Hubby opened the car door and Buddy didn’t even think twice about getting in. Of we go homeward bound. It was almost like he knew he was now home, he made him self quite comfortable on the lounge and in front of the fire. The other 2 dogs Button (toy poodle) and Destiny (chi x) looked at me, looked at Buddy looked at me again as if to say really mum a big dog, I hope he knows that we rule the house and what we say goes. And yep they were right but Buddy fit in fine, he ignored the little ones let them do their own thing and pretended that he thought they were the boss of the house. I think Buddy was just so happy to be home.
We went on a lot of adventures with Buddy and he had a great life. He was 16 when he died, so I had him for a precious 6 years. Of course, he never found a new home. Even hubby fell in love with him after 2 days. We did go back to see his old family, they did care for him, they just found themselves in a horrible place where money was tight. But they did the best thing for Buddy, they gave him up to a family who knew they could care for him.
We went to see his old family a couple of times and met at Buddy’s favorite park. He was ecstatic to see them and the kids and ran up for cuddles. But as soon as it was time to go home, he automatically came to our car and waited for me to open the door for him. Dogs don’t hold grudges; they love unconditionally and he loved them all. He was special to them and me. He was what you call maybe one of a kind. But really, he was just Buddy and all dogs are that one of a kind.
I often think of our big boy and I know he still walks by our side. It took 6 months for us to get another dog, and I knew one would find me, I wouldn’t need to go and find him or her.
Yep his name is Rex, another dog from a special place that also couldn’t look after him due to different reasons. But this is another story to tell soon. You will see Rex in a lot of my posts on FB.
They say if you’re lucky you’ll get one really great dog in your life. Other dogs may do their jobs in their own unique and perfectly wonderful ways, but there will always be that dog that no dog will replace, the dog that will make you cry even when it’s been gone for more years than it could ever have lived. I have now had that dog. That is at once the most beautiful and
most awful thought in the world. But I myself think that every dog I have had has a different connection with me they are all just as soul reaching as each other. Maybe they just keep returning to me after they pass. Who knows? But I am sure everyone feels the same way.
We named our new Buddy Good after our special boy. It seemed to fit quite nice. Buddy (after him) , Bud (for the hemp plant it comes from) and Buddy Good (cause of our Aussie slang Bloody Good Mate.)
He not only helped us while he was here but now he is helping others live the best like they can with this amazing plant we call hemp. Like I said he is by my side the whole way, he directs me to find whats best for your pets and mine.
